A Flock of Color“fowl"

by Gregory Johnson

May 25, 2010

Mr. Johnson’s elementary art classes (kindergarten, first and second grade) created birds of the Rain Forrest for our art lesson and project. For this project, students drew out their birds on black paper using black markers and then applied Elmer’s Glue-all over the lines within their drawing.  When this dries it turns into a clear black color so our birds became visible on the paper.  In the second stage, construction paper crayons in either cool or warm colors were utilized. For presentation the students then matted their artwork.

The students studied the following design elements of Art:  Color (cool – warm – neutral,) Shape (blob – circle – square – rectangle – triangle,) Line (straight – curved – long – short,) and Texture (depth – touch – flow – blend.)
