On Monday, September 9th, auditions were held for the 2013-2014 Cunningham High School Main Street Singers. Students auditioned for a panel consisting of Mr. Jon Jon “Pierre” Albers – former MSS member, Mrs. Angie (McGovney) Mertens – former MSS member, Mrs. Jennette (Becker) Rogers – former MSS member and Mr. Thomas Ziegler – former MSS member. Ten students were selected based on the panels’ evaluation of the students’ auditions in dancing, singing and their interview (oral / written) and three faculty recommendations.
Main Street Singers is a select group of up to 24 members that perform various styles of music from Broadway classics, standards, contemporary Christian, patriotic tunes and Madrigals. The Main Street Singers have represented Cunningham at the State Music Festival and received Superior I Ratings. The Main Street Singers Ladies and Men’s Ensemble have also represented Cunningham at the State Music Festival and most recently received Superior I ratings at the State Festival in 2013, with the Ladies receiving a perfect score resulting in a I+. Main Street Singers have also consistently received Superior I Ratings at the Tri-State Music Madrigal Festival in Enid, Oklahoma. In 2006, 2007 and in 2008, they were awarded the Most Outstanding Show Choir Award within their division at the Tri-State Music Festival. Main Street Singers are also involved in winning the Tri-State Music Sweepstakes in 2001, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008 as well as the Tri-State Vocal Department Sweepstakes in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
This year’s Cunningham High School Main Street Singers are as follows: Nathan Albers,Christopher Hansen, Corban Hansen, Heather Kerschen, Brett McKitrick, Blake Melcher, Mikaela Meyers, Bryce Murphy, Kortney Ricke and Savannah Ward. Mrs. Cindy Panek accompanies the Main Street Singers.
