Cunningham High School Hosts Varsity Scholars' Bowl

On Tuesday, October 27th 2015, eight high schools from south central Kansas participated in the Varsity Scholars’ Bowl tournament held in Cunningham. Teams from Chaparral, Cheney, Cunningham, Fairfield, Kingman, Macksville, Norwich and Skyline competed round robin competition held at Cunningham Grade School. Cheney High School had the winning record of the day with six wins and one loss. There was a two-way tie for second place with Skyline (5-2) edging out Macksville (5-2) in head-to-head play. First place individual honors went to Sabrina Rich of Cheney with 175 points. Nathaniel Miller of Macksville placed second with 160 points and Andrea Vierthaler, a Cunningham senior, placed third individually with 150 total points.
Cunningham’s Varsity team of Andrea Vierthaler (senior), Chris Hansen (senior), Darius McAdam (junior), Brett McKitrick (junior) and Zach Osner (freshman) placed fourth overall with a record of four wins and three losses.
The Wildcat Scholars Bowl teams and Coach Amber Zwierzychowski will be busy this fall with a five-tournament schedule that includes Moundridge Varsity (Nov 3), Macksville JV/Varsity (Nov 5), Fairfield JV/Varsity (Nov 12), Skyline JV (Nov 19), and Skyline Varsity (Dec 10). The teams will travel to Chaparral (Jan 14) and Burrton (Jan 21) before heading to the Regional tournament on February 4th.
