Cross Country Runners Finish Season at Regional Meet
The Cunningham High School cross country team traveled to Wichita to compete at the class 1A regional cross country meet on October 21, 2017.
Lena Westerman ran against 42 runners for the chance to compete at the state meet. She ran hard and finished in 24th place overall and 10th of the individual runners. Seven runners who are not on teams that qualify for state also qualify for state even if they are not in the top ten. Unfortunately Lena’s 10th place left her a few places short of qualifying. She finished in a time of 26:31.52.
Henry Huelskamp and Skylar Hennessee participated in the boys division and gained valuable experience for next year with their 39th and 45th place finishes out of 56 runners. Their times were 22:02.95 and 22:45.58, respectively.
Lena finishes her two year high school career with medaling finishes in seven meets and a top 10 finish at league her junior year that garnered her All-League honors. Thank you for your leadership and being a positive role model for the other team members.
I thank everyone on behalf of the team for their support and encouragement throughout the season.
