The President's Challenge

President’s Challenge
The President's Challenge, a program sponsored by the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, provides young people with the opportunity to receive awards based upon their individual level of fitness. Students involved in the President's Challenge complete five test items. Included in these tests were sit-ups, push-ups, V-sit and reach, shuttle run, and a distance run of either 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, or 1 mile.
As part of their physical education classes, students in grades kindergarten through fifth at Cunningham Grade School participated in the 2009 President's Challenge. Of the CGS students participating in the President's Challenge, 50% received recognition for their level of fitness.
National Award Recognition
In order to qualify for the NATIONAL PHYSICAL FITNESS AWARD the student must achieve at or above the 50th percentile on all five test items. The 30 students who achieve this fitness award received an embroidered emblem and a certificate during the Awards Program on May 14.

This elite group of 3 students received an embroidered Presidential emblem and a certificate signed by the President of the United States. Their awards were distributed at the May 14th Awards Program.

As the physical education instructor at Cunningham Grade School I would like to commend each of these award winners as well as all of the students who participated in the President's Challenge for the hard work and improvements they made as they worked to improve their levels of physical fitness throughout the 2009 school year.
