Harvest Farms

October 15, 2010

Kindergarten, first and second grade students went to the Harvest Farm in Turon, KS on a perfect October day.  The sun was shining, and the weather was perfect for an outdoor educational day.
We learned about some of our Kansas crops.  We saw soybeans, corn, sunflowers, cotton, wheat, and milo.  We learned how they grow, how they are harvested, and how all of us use these things daily.  We saw old and new farm equipment and learned how they are used to harvest crops.  We are really glad farmers have modern equipment these days.  Everyone had a chance to climb in the combine and look around.

We learned interesting facts about Kansas farm animals and everyone had a chance to feed rabbits, pigs, cows, goats, sheep, donkeys, and horses.  We saw baby chicks and ducks that had arrived in the mail just a few days earlier.
We enjoyed the hayrack ride and stopping at the pumpkin patch.  We saw different stages of how the pumpkin plants grow before we got to pick one out to take home. The play area had new equipment that was fun to try out, but the slide was still the main attraction. The classes and teachers want to thank the West Kingman County Educational Foundation for sponsoring our day.  We had a great day and an excellent learning experience!
